The bay is for trucks, equipment, or a hobby shop. Door size and eave height come from what you park, then the living plan is drawn beside it. Bedrooms and the porch stay off the shop wall. A mudroom is the daily entrance between the two. The living side is insulated for Alabama heat and for the cold snaps that still show up. The shop can remain ventilated and unconditioned if that matches how you will use it.

These buildings need room for the footprint, the overhead-door apron, and setbacks.
